Jean Meier

January 14, 1938 — September 14, 2024

Shelby Jean Meier, 86, of Chippewa Township, PA passed away on September 14, 2024 with the love and prayers of her family around her as she went to be with the Lord.

Jean was born in East Palestine, Ohio, on January 14, 1938, the daughter of the late Fred and Lillian Foley McGath. She was a graduate of East Palestine High School and her life was spent as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mom, mother-in-law and friend.

She married the love of her life Leo Meier, Jr., and they lived a happy life together for 49 years. Following Leo’s passing in 2007, Jean remained devoted to her beloved Leo and missed him greatly. Although her life was never the same without him, Jean found renewed purpose by opening her heart and home to senior pets. If not for Jean’s kind heart and gentle nature, Bandi, Bonnie, Cooper, Molly and Samuel would have been abandoned and unloved. Jean said often that they rescued her, not that she rescued them. The unconditional love her pets provided during her years without her Leo was such a blessing.

Jean was a skilled homemaker, creative crafter and wonderful hostess who kept her home and garden as lovely places to welcome family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her much-loved siblings Shirley McCurdy and Gary McGath, sister-in-law Carol Meier and brother-in-law Jack McCurdy and her best buddies Parker, Cooper, Bandi, Molly, Bonnie and Sam-Sam.

Jean is loved and missed by son Leo and daughter-in-law Julie Meier; daughter Sharon and son-in-law Larry Bankovitch; daughter Karen and son-in-law Tracy Estermyer; grandchildren Brittany and Stephany. She is survived by her brother-in-law and friend Henry Meier, sister-in-law and friend Sandy McGath, cousin and friends Tharon and Roy Veon and dear friend Marie Brauch. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, each of whom she loved dearly.

Thank you to Dr. Eric Ehrenberg at Trinity Family Practice and Dr. Moon Jung Fenton at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center for their professional and compassionate care and to Angie, Tawnia, Crystal and Julie at Concordia for their exceptional care of Jean.

To the wonderful ladies with Good Samaritan Hospice – Ashley, Jen, Claire and Jess – may God continue to bless you with patience, understanding and genuine kindness. Your care and friendship with Jean and her family through this were gifts that will always be remembered. Thank you for helping us keep Jean where she wanted to be: the “home sweet home” on Hickory Drive she built with her husband, where they lived a simple, good life of happily ever after.

Jean requested that any person wishing to remember her would do so by making a donation (food, supplies or monetary) to the Beaver County Humane Society.

Following Jean’s request, her gathering and service will be private. A burial to take place at Beaver Falls Cemetery. Arrangments are being cared for by Campbell’s Chippewa Funeral Home, Inc., 2618 Darlington Road, Beaver Falls, PA 15010 (Randy R. Wheeler, supervisor, 724-843-2500).
